From Port to Project Site: Conqueror Toronto Delivers Precision Aluminium Coil Logistics

By integrating ocean freight, specialized warehousing, and dedicated trucking solutions, W.T. Express Canada ensures the safe delivery of aluminium coils across Canada and beyond

W.T. Express Canada, Conqueror member in Toronto, Canada, continues to reinforce its reputation as a specialist in project and industrial logistics through its comprehensive handling of aluminium sheet and coil shipments destined for customers across Canada. The company provides an end-to-end solution covering ocean freight, warehousing, transloading, and nationwide trucking, ensuring these high-value products arrive safely despite the operational challenges posed by long distances and extreme weather.

Manufactured in China, the aluminium sheets and coils are shipped by ocean freight in full container loads, with each 20 or 40-foot container carrying two to four coils depending on weight and size restrictions. Each coil weighs approximately 10,000 kg and occupies around 8 CBM, while W.T. Express Canada has the operational capacity to manage projects involving as many as 1,000 coils. The company delivers these products primarily to the construction, transportation, and packaging industries, where customers use them for roofing, siding, automotive components, and beverage packaging.

“Aluminium coil logistics is far more demanding than conventional cargo transportation. Every stage, from ocean freight and warehousing to final delivery, requires specialized equipment, experienced personnel, and rigorous operational controls.  In addition, major rail carriers CN and CP do not accept intact coil shipments to inland cities, meaning cargo must be transloaded at primary ports and delivered to destination by specialized trucking, ” says Mr. Paul Lau, Managing Director of W.T. Express Canada. “Our team has built extensive expertise in managing these complex shipments while maintaining the highest standards of cargo protection, traceability, and efficiency.”

Handling aluminium coils requires meticulous planning and specialized expertise at every stage of the supply chain. Even minor scratches, dents, or contamination can significantly reduce the value of the cargo, while exposure to moisture during Canada’s seasonal weather changes may result in water staining or white rust. Therefore, the cargo must also be secured carefully to prevent coils from telescoping, collapsing, or shifting during transport due to their substantial weight.

To address these challenges, W.T. Express Canada employs heavy-duty forklifts, coil rams, C-hooks, padded lifting slings, and non-marring handling surfaces designed specifically for aluminium products. Moreover, W.T. Express Canada designs its warehouse layouts with ample space to accommodate oversized handling equipment. It implements strict inventory controls to ensure complete traceability of heat numbers, alloy types, thickness, temper, and production lots. The team uses a first-in, first-out (FIFO) inventory management system throughout storage to meet downstream manufacturing requirements.

Upon arrival at the port, the company coordinates large-scale container transfers from terminals to its warehouses, then arranges transloading and final delivery with specialized trucking equipment. Depending on the shipment requirements, they deploy curtain-side trailers, tri-axle trucks, and Super B-train combinations to transport the cargo safely across Canada. Their team carefully plans every movement to maintain correct weight distribution and minimize handling risks throughout the journey.

Congratulations to W.T. Express Canada and all the best for their upcoming projects!

Conqueror Halifax manages the end-to-end delivery of a project cargo for a high-profile exhibition event in Canada

From rail ramp to warehouse to final-mile flatbed delivery, this project cargo showcases Globex Logistics Inc.’s seamless handling of time-critical oversized cargo

Globex Logistics Inc., Conqueror member in Halifax, Canada, recently demonstrated its specialized freight forwarding capabilities through the successful execution of a complex project cargo movement. The shipment, consisting of oversized skids for an exclusive exhibition event, required detailed coordination, specialized equipment, and a time-sensitive delivery schedule.

The cargo arrived in a 40-foot HC container at a rail ramp. After swift customs clearance, they moved the cargo to Globex’s cross-dock warehouse facility, where time efficiency and cargo safety were top priorities. “Our cross-docking system reduces dwell time and accelerates transitions without compromising the integrity of the freight,” added Mr. Dhawan.

Offloading and transfer to a flatbed Moffett truck was a critical step in the process. Additionally, the use of the Moffett—a truck-mounted forklift, enabled precise handling, especially important at the final delivery point, which lacked any unloading infrastructure. Moreover, following rigorous safety protocols, the operations team employed heavy-duty straps, edge protectors, and anti-slip mats to secure the load.

The last-mile delivery posed its challenges, particularly due to the size of the shipment and the tight delivery window. Nevertheless, supported by GPS tracking and real-time coordination, the driver team executed the final leg without a hitch.

“Last-mile is where the pressure peaks,” said Mr. Dhawan, President of Globex Logistics. “Our clients count on us to not only move freight but to keep them informed and reassured every step of the way.” Consequently, they delivered the cargo successfully and positioned it on-site, on time and in perfect condition, earning high praise from the client.

Congratulations to Globex Logistics and all the best for their upcoming projects!
